About this talk

Why do early life experiences, especially the difficult ones, shape who we become as adults? Adverse childhood experiences such as neglect, abuse and chronic stress can alter the developing brains of children and adolescents, and this cumulative stress can play a role in shaping our emotions, learning, memory and decision-making. Dr Jeffrey DeMarco draws on neuroscience to explore how early environments influence children's long-term wellbeing and how that impact carries into adulthood. He also examines the role of support and resilience in helping the brain heal and grow after trauma, making this an illuminating session for anyone keen to understand how childhood experiences leave a lasting mark on our lives.
