An unbroken chain of storytellers

From Homer to Kaos, every retelling is a new link. A guided tour through the ages of Greek myth — and why we keep coming back.

The Gods of Olympus

A divine family tree built on chaos, love, and a father eating his children. Zeus, Hera, Athena — and the mothers who got written out.

🛡

Heroes & Mortals

Heracles and his twelve labours. Odysseus dodging a war he started. The women of the Iliad — Briseis, Helen, Clytemnestra — finally given a voice.

🏛

Why They Endure

Flawed mortals in impossible situations. Aristotle called it catharsis. We call it Netflix. The archetypes that outlast empires.

About the Talk

For over two thousand years, Greek mythology has shaped the Western imagination. Olympian gods. Epic heroes. Fearsome monsters. Philosophers, poets, painters and Netflix showrunners have all plundered the same deep well.

From the Homeric epics to the spectacle of Troy and the bold reinvention of myth in Netflix’s Kaos, every retelling places us in an unbroken chain of storytellers stretching back to antiquity. But how well do we really know where these tales come from?

Dr Shelby Judge walks us through the great mythic ages of ancient Greece — the Golden and Silver Ages, the Bronze Age, the Age of Heroes — and the defining stories and figures of each era. Along the way, the talk asks a deeper question: why have these myths endured?

By examining their archetypes, their moral tensions and their stubborn insights into the human condition, we’ll see why Greek mythology continues to fascinate, challenge and enchant us today.
