About this talk
Why does trauma get "stuck"? Why can a client understand their past logically but still react as though they're in danger? And why do talk-based approaches sometimes struggle to shift what the body seems to hold onto?
Some of the answers lie in the brain and nervous system. Trauma isn't just a psychological experience – it's a neurobiological one, reshaping how the brain processes threat, memory, and safety in ways that persist long after the original event.
This professional workshop explores the neuroscience of trauma; what is happening in the brain and body when someone experiences trauma, and how that affects memory, emotional regulation and cognitive processes. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of why trauma presents the way it does – and how this knowledge can inform and strengthen your clinical approach.
What you'll gain:
Understanding of how trauma affects key brain structures - the amygdala, hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and their interactions
Insight into the role of the nervous system
Clarity on why trauma memories work differently – and why this matters for treatment
Practical ways to apply neuroscience insights to your work with traumatised clients
Language to explain these concepts to clients in accessible, empowering ways
CPD certificate of attendance
Who is this for?
This workshop is designed for therapists, counsellors, psychologists, coaches, and other professionals who work with clients affected by trauma. Whether you're looking to understand the science behind the approaches you already use, or want to deepen your theoretical foundation, this session offers research, neuroscience, and practical application.
Please note: This is a professional-level workshop. The content assumes familiarity with basic therapeutic concepts and mental health practices.
