About this talk

Discover the impact of family history, inherited experiences, epigenetics & learn how to break the intergenerational cycle. Followed by Q&A. Experiences shape you, even ones that aren’t your own. It’s increasingly understood that experiences of depression, anxiety, PTSD and other psychological conditions may be linked to trauma experienced by parents, grandparents and even earlier generations. In this illuminating talk, clinical psychologist Dr Deba Choudhury explores how distant familial trauma can leave a lasting imprint on our minds and bodies today. Drawing on psychology and epigenetic research, this session examines the biological and psychological mechanisms through which trauma is passed down through generations. You’ll gain insight into how family history shapes emotional patterns, stress responses and wellbeing – and how awareness can open the door to healing. With a focus on compassionate self-understanding, the talk offers practical ways to begin interrupting intergenerational cycles and navigating the complexities of the past.
